Direct Current Voltage Gradient

Direct Current Voltage Gradient (DCVG) is a survey to determine the condition of the existing coating on buried pipes. The principle is to detect differences in voltage/earth surface tension just above the buried pipe using 2 or more portable reference electrodes.

DCVG – Equipment Setup :

  • Analogue Voltmeter
    – Adjustable Scale
  • Probes
    – Coarse Bias
    – Fine Bias
  • Surveyors Wheel
    – Continuous Chain age

Benefits :

  • Can be surveyed from above land
  • Can measure levels coating damage
  • Can find location damaged coating

DCVG Data Collection :

DCVG :

  • If there is a coating defect, the current strength at that location is large.
  • The signal can be detected by measuring the potential gradient in the surroundings Coating defects.
  • The larger the coating defect, the greater the current strength, the greater the signal.
  • By knowing the magnitude of the potential gradient, we can qualitatively Can determine the size of coating defects.
  • Detection can be done with the DCVG tool.
