Direct Current Voltage Gradient (DCVG) is a survey to determine the condition of the existing coating on buried pipes. The principle is to detect differences in voltage/earth surface tension just above the buried pipe using 2 or more portable reference electrodes.
DCVG – Equipment Setup :
- Analogue Voltmeter
– Adjustable Scale - Probes
– Coarse Bias
– Fine Bias - Surveyors Wheel
– Continuous Chain age
Benefits :
- Can be surveyed from above land
- Can measure levels coating damage
- Can find location damaged coating
DCVG Data Collection :
DCVG :
- If there is a coating defect, the current strength at that location is large.
- The signal can be detected by measuring the potential gradient in the surroundings Coating defects.
- The larger the coating defect, the greater the current strength, the greater the signal.
- By knowing the magnitude of the potential gradient, we can qualitatively Can determine the size of coating defects.
- Detection can be done with the DCVG tool.
